Description

– Rare Queen Victoria 1897 Spithead Naval Review Leaflet –

Here we have a pamphlet from 1897 where it details the ships present at the last fleet review for Her Majesty, Queen Victoria. This article was printed in Portsmouth by Henry Lewis of 114 High Street. Over 38,577 men and officers were present during this review.

 – Naval Reviews –

A Fleet Review is a British tradition where the monarch inspects the massed ships of the navy. It originally occurred when the fleet was mobilised for war, or for a ‘show of strength’ to discourage potential enemies. Since the 19th century reviews have often been held for the coronation of a monarch or for special royal jubilees and have often included delegates from other national navies.

– Condition –

This pamphlet is in excellent condition for its age and use. Please see the pictures as they form part of our condition report.
