~ Royal Doulton Stoneware Jug Nelson And His Captains (Brown) ~
A fine commemorative, wide based jug entitled ‘Nelson and His Captains’. I think these were issued in 1905 as part of the battle of Trafalgar centenary celebrations.
The base and spout are in dark brown glaze with the body being a lighter tan brown.
The band has a portrait to the front of Lord Nelson – around this are scenes of ships and smaller portraits of his Captains – Troubridge, Collingwood, Hardy and Miller.
The base has the Royal Doulton stamp and the code X6436.
~ Dimensions ~
The jug measure 8 inches (20cm) in height and has a diameter of approx. 5 ½ inches (14cm). It weighs 1.150Kg.
~ Condition ~
The jug is in wonderful condition and is free from damage. There is a small firing crack where the handle meets the jug (see photo).
