The victory medal 1914-1919 is engraved to the edge “K.19938 W.E.COOK STO.1. R.N”
The British war medal 1914-1918 is engraved to the edge “K.19938 W.E.COOK STO.1. R.N”
STO stands for the ranking of “Stoker” and goes back to the days when ships’ boilers were coal-fired and thus “stoked” by stokers. In the Royal Navy they are now known as Marine Engineering Mechanics, further divided into Mechanical and Electrical sub branches.

The medals are of the standard size.
~ Condition
The British War Medal has started to tarnish, the front is black where as the reverse has started to blacken. The Victory medal is in a similar condition. The ribbons are modern replacements.
