A fine set of six original books entitled ‘The Dispatches and Letters of Vice Admiral Lord Viscount Nelson (with notes by Sir Nicholas Harris Nicolas
G.C.M.G.)’.
The books document Nelson’s long and celebrated career in the Royal Navy, from his appointment as a lieutenant in 1777 to his death at Trafalgar in
1805.
The set consists of six hardback volumes: Vols. 1-5 and vol. 7, sadly volume 6 is missing.
The books were published by Henry Colburn, London.
Volume 1 reads that this is the second edition published in 1845. Volumes 2-5 were also published that year and volume 7 was published in 1846.
~ Dimensions ~
The books measure 5 ½ inches wide by 8 ½ inches high, each has varying depths.
The set weighs 5.49Kg.
~ Condition ~
Vol 1: Missing spine, front and rear cover detached.
Vol 4: Front cover, rear cover and spine detached.
Vol 7: Partial spine, front and rear cover detached.
All other volumes have decent spines and fully attached covers.
All volumes are quite well used. All have light foxing, some mildew marks and general wear both inside and out, each in varying degrees but none serious.
Aside from the afore mentioned, the books have no other damages.
There is some period handwriting in ink in some of the books to the first pages.
