*Soviet, Cold War Era, Army Officer’s Dress Visor Cap, Red Band, Moscow-Made, Size 55*
This is an original Soviet Army officer’s visor cap, dating from the Cold War period, likely the 1970s–1980s. Manufactured at the renowned 43rd Central Experimental Production Combine (43 ЦЭПК), Moscow – as indicated by the diamond-shaped maker’s mark on the interior – this example represents the classic high-crowned style typical of Soviet parade dress uniforms.
The cap features a dark olive green top with bold red wool band and matching red piping along the crown and visor edge. The red band is most commonly associated with senior staff officers or those in the artillery or command branches. Affixed to the front is the iconic Soviet insignia: a red enamel star bearing the hammer and sickle, backed by a white enamel field and surrounded by a gold radiating wreath. The cap is finished with a gilt chin cord, secured by Soviet star-embossed buttons.
The stiffened crown retains its tall, distinctive shape, and the black lacquered visor is clean and intact. The inner lining is olive green cotton, with faux leather sweatband and size marking “55”. The cap shows signs of light use and storage but remains in very good overall condition with no major defects, making it ideal for collectors, display, or re-enactment.
*Condition*
Very good condition with minor signs of handling and age. The interior label is crisp, stitching intact, visor clean, and enamel insignia free of chips. No major stains, tears, or structural flaws. Chin cord and buttons are original and secure.
