*Soviet Union, 1950s–1980s, Makarov PM Leather Lanyard, Standard Pattern*
An original Soviet-issue leather lanyard for the Makarov PM service pistol, measuring approximately 87 cm in overall length. Made from brown vegetable-tanned leather in the regulation folded-strip construction, with a fixed retention loop at one end for attachment to a belt button or equipment ring, and a brass spring-clip at the opposite end for securing to the pistol’s lanyard lug. The rough inner leather surface and simple riveted loop are fully consistent with period Soviet manufacture. A correct and authentic accessory for completing a Cold War Makarov rig.
Historical Note:
The PM (Pistolet Makarova) entered Soviet service in 1951 and remained the standard sidearm throughout the Cold War. Lanyards of this leather pattern were issued widely to officers, armoured crewmen, police units, and internal security forces. Although cord versions also existed—particularly in later Warsaw Pact production—the plain brown leather lanyard remained the most commonly encountered Soviet military type. Surviving examples in undamaged condition are increasingly sought after by collectors completing service rigs.
*Condition*
Good, service-used condition. Leather remains supple with light surface wear and expected age toning. Brass clip functions correctly with no distortion. Stitching and riveted loop secure. No cuts, splits or hardened areas noted. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
