*Soviet – USSR, Cold War, Enlisted Man’s Field /Service Belt with Grey Steel Star & Hammer and Sickle Buckle, Brown Leatherette/Kirza Belt, Original Example*
A good original Soviet military enlisted man’s belt, fitted with the classic rectangular grey steel buckle featuring the raised five-pointed star with central hammer and sickle emblem. This is the standard soldier’s issue pattern used widely by the Red Army and later Soviet Armed Forces during the Cold War period, intended for everyday service and field wear rather than bright parade dress.
The buckle, originally finished in a subdued khaki-grey painted coating to reduce shine in service, now largely worn back to a galvanised steel appearance on the reverse and edges, a practical low-reflective finish typical of field-service belts from the post-war period through the 1970s–1980s. The broad brown belt is of the standard utility pattern, approximately 4.2 cm wide, with a smooth finished outer face and a fabric-backed reverse consistent with Soviet kirza or leatherette construction rather than full parade leather. The separate steel catch fitting remains present and correctly stitched in place. The original sliding keeper is now absent.
Approx. Measurements – Overall length: 96 cm. Width: 4.2 cm.
History Note:
These belts were issued to ordinary enlisted personnel across army service branches and are instantly recognisable pieces of Soviet uniform equipment. Unlike the softer polished parade belts, this utilitarian grey-buckle type was designed for regular barracks and field use, offering durability and reduced shine for practical wear.
*Condition*
Honest used condition showing age and service wear throughout. The buckle retains surface wear, scratches, and light finish loss consistent with use. The belt shows age-related cracking and some small splits to the outer surface, with wear around the stitched fittings. No keeper present. No visible factory markings noted. A solid original display piece. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
