Description

*US, Cold War Era, Army Eagle Insignia Cap Device, Silver-Coloured Metal, Garrison Cap Mount*

A United States Army eagle insignia in silver-coloured metal, depicting an eagle in flight with outstretched wings and detailed feathering. The eagle is mounted to a brass backing plate with double wire retaining bars, a construction typical of devices fitted to U.S. garrison (overseas) caps.

The eagle itself is attached by a central clutch post, which secures it to the backing plate. This mounting method allowed the insignia to be worn neatly on the soft fabric of a side or garrison cap while providing additional stability.

Badges of this style were commonly produced in silver-coloured or nickel-plated metal and were used on various forms of U.S. Army dress, particularly during the Cold War period.

Approx. Measurements – Height: 2.5 cm. Width: 2.7 cm.

History Note:
The eagle has long been a central symbol of the United States armed forces, representing strength, vigilance, and national identity. Eagle devices have appeared across numerous branches and insignia forms, including cap badges, collar insignia, and aviation-related emblems.

Garrison caps (also known as overseas caps) became standard headgear for many U.S. Army personnel during the Second World War and continued in use throughout the Cold War. Small metal insignia such as this example were mounted to the caps to identify branch or organisational affiliation.

*Condition*
Good condition overall. The silver-coloured finish remains bright with light signs of age and handling. The clutch fitting and brass backing plate remain secure. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
