~ Very Fine Miniature Portrait Of Maria Luisa of Savoy, c1830 ~
A gorgeous portrait of Madam Laballe dressed in the French Rococo style with her elaborate wig, ruffled neckline and covered arms. It is signed to the right hand side, Ar S. The S is rather scrolled with a central bar as was typical of the period. The workmanship is top quality.
This is an early 19th century copy from circa 1830, possibly earlier, based on the original by Louise Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun painted around 1780.
She is set within a gilt border and plum coloured velvet frame.

Maria Luisa of Savoy (Maria Teresa Luisa; 8 September 1749 – 3 September 1792) was a member of the House of Savoy. She was married at the age of 16 to Louis Alexandra de Bourbon, Prince de Lamballe, the heir to the greatest fortune in France. After her marriage, which lasted a year, she went to court and became the confidante of Queen Marie Antoilette. Her death in the massacres of September 1792 during the French Revolution sparked a movement of anti-revolutionary propaganda, which ultimately led to the development and implementation of the Reign of Terror.

The octagonal frame measures 6 inches (15cm) wide by 7 inches (18cm) tall. The oval painting measures 3.75 inches (9.5cm) high by 3 inches (7.5cm) wide. It weights 285 grams.

The painting is in fine condition as is the glass. The felt has minimal wear.
