~ Victorian Aneroid Barometer ~
This is a very beautiful late Victorian aneroid barometer.
The barometer has a thick brass border with bevelled glass and is housed in a circular, carved and stained mahogany case.
The case has an arched pediment, surmounted by a finial with two pendants and supported by twin turned supports.
The white dial has a black numbered scale and the words: Stormy, Rain, Cange, Fair and Very Dry in black with red highlights.
It has a golden adjustable setting hand and a blued steel reading hand.
The middle of the face reveals the inner mechanism.
~ Dimensions ~
The face of the barometer has a diameter of 6 ¼ inches (16cm). The diameter of the case is 11 ½ inches (29cm). The supported pediment measures 14 ½ inches (37cm) high. The overall measurement is 26 inches (66cm).
~ Condition ~
The piece is in good condition. The ceramic face has been damaged and repaired at some point and there is a little mottling. The brass ring is rather tainted. The wood in general is in good condition however there is a couple of small chips to the supports. There appears to be a piece missing as there is a hole at the base of the barometers casing.
