~ WW1 RNAS Inkstand Awarded To Charles Rumney Samson ~

This World War 1 Royal Navy Air Service inkstand was awarded to Charles Rumney Samson by his fellow officers.

Charles Rumney Samson was a high ranking officer in the Royal Navy and then late the air force. He was one of the first four officers selected for pilot training by the Royal Navy and was the first person to fly an aircraft from a moving ship. He also commanded the first British armoured vehicles used in combat.

The oak inkstand has 2 ink bottles and a pen rest.

Between the ink bottles is a Royal Navy Air Service badge. Below is a single drawer with a small brass handle.

Above is a lidded compartment with three slots for correspondence.

On the lid is a brass presentation plaque reading “Presented To Cdr C.R. Samson DSO No 3 Sqn RNAS From Fellow Officers 25th February 1915”.

~ Dimensions ~

The piece has a width of 10.2 inches (26 cm) and a height of 8.6 inches (22 cm).

It weighs 2.04 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The piece is in good order, one inkwell is chipped underneath.
