~ WW1 Royal Artillery – Royal Flying Corps Trench Art Brass Tobacco Jar c1915 ~
A First World War trench art tobacco jar with lid made from the bases of two brass German shell cases both dated 1915.
The front of the jar is hand engraved with the Royal Artillery grenade emblem with ‘Ubique’ below within a banner. To the centre of
the grenade is an uppercase letter ‘N’.
The grenade has the added wings of the Royal Flying Corps, being RFC it is a very rare piece.
The shells are marked:
Top; – ‘243, DEZ, 1915, Sp255, Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe’.
Base; – ’58, DEZ, 1915, HL26, FR.Neumeyer Nurnberg’.
~ Dimensions ~
The jar has a diameter of 12cm (4 ¾ inches) and a height of 10cm (4 inches).
It weighs 1.78 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The piece is in a very good condition for its age with light wear as to be expected but no major damage.
