*WW2, British Army Binoculars, made by REL Canada, in 1937 Pattern Webbing Case*
These binoculars, crafted from black painted metal, come with the original leather strap for convenient neck carriage. The special non-slip black paint finish ensures a secure grip, resistant to sweat or moisture. Two lugs on the reverse facilitate attachment of a neck strap. The individual eyepieces allow focal length adjustment, featuring a graduated scale. Encased in a 1937 pattern webbing binocular case, this top-opening rigid case boasts canvas webbing, a press-stud flap fastener, metal belt fittings, and brass buckles for a leather carrying strap.
The left barrel bears the discernable markings “C.G.B .. GA,” indicating the likely origin as REL Binoculars made in Canada, “CGB” may signify “Contract Great Britain” though this is disputed as other REL CGB labelled optics were not designated for GB. “GA” may suggest that original issuance was with a case. The right barrel is marked with “GRATICULES 1/2 APART the rest is illegible.”
Manufactured by Canadian Research Enterprises Limited (REL), a Toronto-based Crown Corporation during World War II, these binoculars played a role in supplying war materiel for the War Office. Starting production in 1941, REL became a major regional employer but ceased operations by 1946.
*Condition*
These binoculars are in good used condition. The central dial is broken. There is some patching on the black paint finish but the optics seem good. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
