Description

*WW2, Enfield No2. Mk1* .38 Cal Tank/AirCrew Revolver, dated 1941*

A well-marked Enfield No2 Mk1*. Serial number 08693 marked on the cylinder and twice on the frame. 1941 and a war arrow are marked on the barrel along with various proof marks the crown cypher, GR, for Georgius Rex or King George VI (The stamp for King George VI was used from 1937 through 1952). with CAl.38. 5" barrel. On the right side of the frame, is the wartime manufacture stamp “DI*”. The D actually combines an E for (E)nfiel(D). Stamped on the cylinder is “ESC. 321”, representing the English Steel Corporation along with the batch number. There are deactivation stamps throughout.

The Enfield No. 2 was a British revolver made from 1932 to 1957. It used the .38 S&W round and was widely used by the British and Commonwealth forces during World War II. Captain H C Boys designed it to replace the more powerful .455 inch Webley revolvers from World War I.

This revolver was lightweight and had a unique break-open feature and a double-action trigger mechanism. Unlike other revolvers, it didn't have a hammer spur that could be manually cocked by the shooter. Rumour suggested that it was designed this way to avoid catching on things inside tanks, however, many historians now believe that the real reason was cost and speed of production. It has a 5-inch barrel, checkered walnut grips, a serrated backstrap on the grip, and checkering on the hammer and break-open lever. The finish is a dull blue, and the barrel has a flat side, a rounded underside, and a full-length rib on top. The rear sight was a large blade with a square notch as part of the break-open lever.

*Condition*
This wartime revolver is in excellent condition. The extractor works and the action cycles. The revolver has its original wartime finish. Deactivation certificate included. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
