During the second world war the Astral Bulkhead Clock made by Smiths was the most used pattern on all the Royal Navy ships.
It came in different sizes and patterns, depending on the size of the ship.
Our example comes from a medium-small size ship, either a merchant, a destroyer or a submarine.
The white face of the dial features black Arab numerals and is marked on its lower end Made in Great Britain.
The piece lost its key over the years but does wind and appears to be working.
The black painted back side of the brass case of the clock is stamped with a broad arrow above the manufacturer’s name “Smith Clocks & Watches Ltd.” and serial numbered “21-05-022”
*Condition*
The numbers suffered some discoloration most probably because someone tried to clean the face with white spirit at one point in time.
It seems to work just fine but we can let it run for few days on request to check that it keeps good time.
