~ WW2 German Camo “Tarnhemd” Smock ~
This is an item of field uniform printed with a camouflage pattern that was used by German troops in the second world war.
Made from a lightweight herringbone twill, it is baggy and roomy (to fit over one’s jacket) and features a wide loose hood, access “pockets” and underarm slits for ventilation.
Once put on, the soldier could then use laces at the front of the hood, buttons on the cuff and a drawstring at the waist, to secure the garment tightly around himself.
The tan, green and brown camouflage pattern is called “Sumpftarnmuster” and translates as “swamp pattern” …it is a blurred version of the first German camo design “Splittermuster”, a geometric pattern from which many variants were designed.

From the hoodline/collar down to the bottom hem, it is 30 inches (76 cm) long.
Laid out flat, the distance from armpit to armpit is a roomy 30 inches (76 cm).

The outer sleeve measurement is 28 inches (71 cm).
~ Condition ~
