A very rare & genuine circa 1935 Luftwaffe Steel Helmet M35 model with early double decals.
During Adolf Hitler’s rearming of the German military in the early 1930’s, the M35 helmet was introduced. This new design was lighter and more streamlined than the older style helmets and is what the world now recognizes as the iconic helmet of the German Military. M35 helmets can most easily be identified from the separate rivet vent holes and rolled edges.
The metal helmet comes with five vent holes and it would have had a reinforced aluminium band and leather liner, these are missing. It retains nearly all of its original sage grey smooth painting.
The helmet has the classic Q style SS Runic decal to the left side of the helmet which shows the typical flaking associated with Q decals. It shows heavy field wear and rates at about 60% with a fair few scuffs and scrapes.
The right side of the helmet has had the swastika decal neatly placed on the white and red shield background.
There are no visible marks or stamps but the maker might be Quist and the size is 66, batch number 510.
*Dimensions*
The helmet has a length of 11 inches (23 cm), a width of 9 ½ inches (26 cm) and a height of 6.5 inches (16.5 cm). It weighs 1.07 kg.
*Condition*
The helmet shows some battle damage resulting in loss of both paint and some decal.
There is some rust and surface pitting to the metal but overall the item presents well.
Overall the condition of the helmet is decent with numerous scratches and paint chips.
Only the skull is present.
