~ WW2 D-day Glider Lancaster Escape Axe Made By Elwell Dated 1944 ~
This is a rare example of an RAF Aircrew Escape Axe.
It was made by the ELWELL company, renowned for making all types of edge tools.
This RAF Escape Axe was used by air crew as an aid to escaping a stricken aircraft and were used in Wellington Bombers and Spitfires, along with many other service aircraft.
The blade is stamped: Ewell, 1944, 27N/I and broad arrow.
The handle still bears the stamps:- TESTED 20,000 VOLTS (hardly visible) and on the opposite side PATENT No 515767
*Condition*
The head is excellent with clear markings.
The handle is intact but the rubber has marks from use.
