~ Original WWII German Kriegsmarine (Navy) Soldier’s Wehrpaß (wehrpass) ~
A Wehrpass was a documentation book issued to every conscript during their registration for the military draft. When a citizen formally became a soldier during his induction into the military, his Wehrpass was turned in to his unit and he would instead be issued with a Soldbuch. During military service the Wehrpass would be used to document facts by the unit’s administration, such as battles, promotions, injuries and awards. It would be returned to the soldier upon completion of his military service as an official record of his war service. In the event of a service related death the Wehrpass would be returned to the next of kin.
