~ Crimean War Russian Helmet Parts ~
These are brass 1853/56 component parts of a Russian model 1840 officer’s helmet found near the city of Sevastopol.
The four parts are the spike of the helmet, its quadrofoil base, a rosette to hold the spike in place and its fixing lug.
The 1840 model helmet was the forerunner of the German pickelhaube.
~ Dimensions ~
The spike is 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall with a diameter of 2 inches (5 cm).
The base of it is 5.8 inches (14.5 cm) wide and 5.5 inches (14 cm) deep.
The rosette diameter is 1.5 inches (4 cm) and the bolt length is 1.8 inches (4.5 cm).
~ Condition ~
The four parts have signs of oxidization, quite likely they were dug up pieces. The spike is quite dented with a side split, the other components much better.
