*British, WW2, The Air Crew Europe Star Medal, with Ribbon and Bar*
This is the least known WW2 Campaign star and unlike the other campaign stars it is only awarded to RAF and Commonwealth aircrews. Awarded for operational flying from UK bases over Europe for a period of 2 months between 3rd September 1939 and 4th June 1944. The Full Size medal is the most expensive of all WW2 Medals. The medal’s ribbon and bar indicate the recipient’s entitlement to either the Atlantic Star or the France and Germany Star.
Campaign medals were instituted by the United Kingdom on 8 July 1943 – the first being the 1939–43 Star (later named the 1939–1945 Star) and the Africa Star. By May 1945, a total of eight campaign stars and nine clasps had been instituted by the United Kingdom to acknowledge wartime service. Later additions included the Arctic Star and the Bomber Command Clasp, introduced on 26 February 2013. A maximum of six campaign stars could be awarded to any individual, with certain clasps signifying eligibility for additional stars. However, only one clasp could be worn on each campaign star.
