~ Victorian Royal Engineers Spiked Black Cloth Helmet By Haslett ~
The helmet, made from black cloth, has the applied brass badge of the Royal Coat of Arms to the front. A pair of rose bosses support a velvet backed chin chain. The inner lining consists of red silk, red leather bank and green leather under the visors.
The spike’s base retains a red leather label with the makers name “J. Haslett, Woolwich”.
~ Dimensions ~
The helmet is 8 inches (20.3cm) tall (without the spike) and 11 inches (28cm) tall (with the spike). It has a depth of 10.5 inches (26.6cm), a width of 7 inches (17.7cm) & weighs 400g.
~ Condition ~
The cloth is extremely clean, with minor wear but damage. The rear visors leather lip has an area of loss. The inner lining is complete. The brass fittings are in good order but with much loss to the original gilding.
