An impressive complete illustrative history held within two volumes.
Both volumes are Illustrated with coloured plates and text descriptions of many figures dating from the Celtic times to Charles II’s escape to France in 1651.
The set is bound in elaborately decorated full red morocco bevelled boards, with extensive gilt tooling and blind stamping of various English and Scottish heraldic crests on front and back boards.
~ Dimensions ~
Both volumes have a width of 9 inches (22.8 cm), a height of 12 inches (30.5 cm) & a depth of 1.5 inch (3.7 cm). Volume 1 weighs 2.24 kg, volume 2 weighs 2.11 kg; the set weighs 4.35 kg.
~ Condition ~
The top of the spine on volume 2 has been torn off and is missing, slight wear to the edges. The art & pages are in excellent order, a moderate presence of foxing and oxidisation on some page.
