A circa 1840’s commemorative gilt bronze medal of Napoleon In Egypt by Jean-François-Antoine Bovy (1795–1877).
Bovy was an 18th/19th century French sculptor and medalist.
The obverse of the medal features a relief bust of Napoleon with the legend ‘BONAPARTE GENERAL EN CHEF’ and ‘A.Bovy’ written below.
The reverse shows Napoleon on horseback commanding soldiers with the Pyramids in the background.
It reads ‘Soldats Du Haut De Ces Pyramides 40 Siecles Nous Contemplent’ which translates roughly as ‘Soldiers From The Top Of These Pyramids 40 Centuries Contemplate Us’
Below is written ‘Napoleon in Egypt 25th July 1798’ (also in French).
The medal is stamped ‘Bronze’ to the edge.
It features an integral suspension loop with a second metal loop attached.

The medal measures 40mm in diameter with a depth of 3mm.
It weighs 40.5g.
~ Condition ~
The medal is in a very nice condition with only light wear to the gilt finish in parts and only a little edge wear.
