An original WWII RAF Escape Axe. As the name suggests, they were designed to be used by crew members to free themselves from crashed aircraft or to be used as a general survival tool. The handle is insulated with thick rubber and so it could be used to cut through electrical wires. The previous owner of this axe writes that it was owned by a SOE operative that dropped SOE and SAS operatives into France up to Jan 1945.
*Condition*
As you would expect from a design that was meant to survive plane crashes, the Escape Axe is still true to its original solidity. There is some patina/rust on the blade. Please refer to the images as a part of our condition report.
