Established on October 23, 1942, by decree of Adolf Hitler, the Motor Vehicle Proficiency Badge had three levels: bronze, silver, and gold. It aimed to recognize drivers who demonstrated skill in wartime operations. The badge had specific requirements for days worked under challenging conditions, ranging from 90 days for motorcyclists to 185 days for other drivers. Self-inflicted accidents resulted in the cancellation of accrued days and a six-month ban. The badge could be revoked for reasons such as negligent care, driving style, and speeding violations. Eligible recipients included Wehrmacht drivers, those subordinate to the Wehrmacht, foreign volunteers, and released prisoners of war who served under German Wehrmacht command.

The stamped alloy badge badge is complete with a circular, magnetic sheet metal backing plate and both of the bent over attachment prongs are intact.
