*British, Original 11th Hussars (Price Albert’s Own) Cap Badge – Treu und Fest*
The crest and motto of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha dynasty, adopted by the regiment following Prince Albert’s death in 1861, were not officially approved until 1876. The crest features a pillar adorned with the arms of Saxony emerging from a ducal coronet, topped with a similar coronet from which five peacock feathers rise. The motto, “TREU UND FEST,” translates to “Faithful and Strong.” During the First World War, it was not worn as an arm badge, and similarly, no badge was worn on the specialized beret during World War II due to its German association.
The 11th Hussars (Prince Albert’s Own) was a cavalry regiment of the British Army established in 1715. It saw service for three centuries including the First World War and Second World War but then amalgamated with the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales’ Own) to form the Royal Hussars in 1969.
