Description

~ First Variant M1907 Dreyse Pistol made by Rheinische Metallwaren & Maschinenfabrik. Abt. Sömmerda -EU Deactivated #1 ~

Serial number 76990. Crown N commercial proofs on the left side of the frame and slide near the trigger

This is a deactivated Late first variant Dreyse pistol. Louis Schmeisser designed this pistol in 1905-06, and it entered the market in 1907. Its production was relatively brief, ceasing in 1915. The firearm was named after Nikolaus von Dreyse, the creator of the Dreyse Needle Gun. In 1901, the Waffenfabrik von Dreyse company was acquired by Rheinische Metallwaren & Maschinenfabrik Sömmerda, but the Dreyse Model pistols continued to be marketed under the Dreyse name. Early pistols are marked "Dreyse Rheinische Metallwaren- & Maschinenfabrik ABT. Sommerda" on the left side of the frame. Later pistols are usually marked "Dreyse Rheinmetal ABT. Sommerda".

One noteworthy feature of this pistol, particularly for its time, was that when it was ready to fire, the firing pin extended through the back of the breech block, serving as an early indicator for cocking the handgun. For cleaning purposes, the frame, receiver, and slide pivoted forward on a pin located in front of the trigger guard. The pistol and its variations, such as the Dreyse Model 1907 Pocket Pistol and the Dreyse Model 1912 Parabellum, operated using simple blowback recoil.

*Condition*
It can't be cocked or dry-fired. The trigger and slide move. Please see the photographs as part of the condition report.
