*British, WW1, Royal Flying Corps (RFC) Propeller Hub Box*
22cm tall
18cm diameter
This is a very attractive British WWI Royal Flying Corps souvenir keepsake box, made from the central hub section of a propeller boss. The laminated wood layers on the sides can still be seen on the sides, as well as from the inside. The top of the box is beaten copper with cast alloy central RFC wings handle. Turned wooden base stand.
The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) formed in 1912 was the air arm of the British Army before and during the First World War until it merged with the Royal Naval Air Service on 1 April 1918 to form the Royal Air Force. The RFC’s motto was Per ardua ad astra (“Through adversity to the stars”). This remains the motto of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and other Commonwealth air forces.
*Condition*
This is in excellent condition. the wood has a fantastic patina. The white metal/copper lid is bent on the inside but still fits tightly. The RFC logo is slightly faded. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
