George James Jackson was born 17 March 1881 Portsea, Portsmouth. He enlisted aged 14, on 9th Dec 1895 at Eastney Barracks, Southsea; listing his trade as scholar. He is recorded as a Bugler 1896-1899; Gunner 1899-1903; Bombardier 1903, Acting Corporal 1904; Bombardier 1904-1906; Corporal 1906-1909; Lance Sergeant 1909-1910; Corporal 1910; Sergeant 1910-1917; Colour-Sergeant 1917-1918; Acting Sergeant-Major (Warrant Officer Class 1) 1918; Quarter-Master Sergeant (Warrant Officer Class 2) - 1918-1920. He served with the Royal Marine Garrison, Cromarty (HMS Columbine, HMS Gunner, HMS Crescent). He died 29 Jan 1966.
