Description

*British, WW2, HMS Trump - Original Photograph and Brass Model of Triton Class Submarine*

A large WW2 unnamed brass model of a Submarine, likely Triton Class. Accompanied by a photograph of HMS Trump, a British T-class submarine. This photograph originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007. HMS Trump (P333) was a British T-class submarine, launched by Vickers-Armstrongs on 25 March 1944. The only Royal Navy vessel to bear the name, she operated primarily with the 4th Submarine Squadron in Australia. Retained post-war, Trump was modernized for improved underwater performance and remained active until January 1969, becoming the last RN submarine stationed in Australia. She was scrapped in August 1971.

Approximate Measurements:
Brass model: 28.5cm x 3.2cm x 3.6cm tall

Design and Features
Trump, part of the third group of T-class submarines, had an all-welded hull for increased diving depth (350 feet). Tropical deployments necessitated freon blowers for cooling. Her armament mirrored earlier T-class boats, but she lacked external torpedo tubes, improving streamlining.

Service History
World War II: Commissioned in July 1944, Trump joined the 4th Submarine Squadron in Perth, Western Australia, conducting four patrols. She sank multiple Japanese vessels, including No. 15 Shosei Maru (May 1945) and participated in convoy attacks alongside HMS Tiptoe.
Post-War: Modernized as a "Super T" submarine, Trump received streamlined features, additional batteries, and upgraded engines. She re-joined the 4th Submarine Flotilla in Sydney in 1960, operating with Commonwealth navies. After refits in 1962–63 and 1965–66, she departed Australia in January 1969 as the Royal Australian Navy transitioned to Oberon-class submarines.
Trump was decommissioned and scrapped at Newport in August 1971.

The T-class submarines, designed in the 1930s, were the Royal Navy’s standard ocean patrol submarines. Of 53 built, they were active in the North Sea, Mediterranean, and Far East, despite limited opportunities to disrupt German shipping early in the war due to heavily mined waters and scarce targets.

*Condition*
