*British, WW1, HM Submarine L11 & L12 - Two Original Photographs*

Two Original Photographs of WW1 Submarines HMS L11 & L12. These photographs originally formed part of the Lou Britton British Submarine Collection, which was acquired by the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in 2007.

Approximate Dimensions:
Photograph 1 - L11 & L12: 12.2cm x 12.6cm (6773 L11 and L12 marked in pen on the back)
Photograph 2 - L12: 25.4cm x 17.2cm

HMS L11 and HMS L12 were British L-class submarines built for the Royal Navy during World War I. Both were part of a group of submarines designed to operate in the North Sea and target German shipping.

HMS L11: Launched in 1916, L11 saw action during World War I, conducting patrols in the North Sea. She was involved in several attacks on German vessels but did not score any successful hits. In 1918, she collided with the Dutch merchant ship Stentor, but was not seriously damaged. After the war, L11 was placed in reserve and was eventually sold for scrap in 1922.

HMS L12: Also launched in 1916, L12 operated in the North Sea, primarily focused on disrupting German shipping. She was credited with sinking several vessels, including the German U-boat UB-35. After the war, she continued to serve briefly in the Royal Navy before being sold for scrap in 1922.

Both submarines were part of the post-war efforts to reduce the size of the Royal Navy and were retired shortly after World War I.
