Description

*Royal Navy Motor Torpedo Boats HMS Sabre / HMS Scimitar, Original Period Photographs, Framed Display*

A striking framed display comprising three original period black-and-white photographs depicting Royal Navy Motor Torpedo Boats HMS Sabre and HMS Scimitar underway at speed. The images capture the boats driving hard through heavy seas, with dramatic bow spray and wake patterns typical of high-speed coastal operations.

The photographs are mounted together within a single glazed frame, forming an attractive horizontal naval display well suited to a study, office, or maritime collection. The dynamic aerial and quarter-angle viewpoints strongly suggest official or service photography rather than casual snapshots, and the consistent photographic paper and presentation indicate they have been grouped together since an early date.

Approx. Measurements: Overall framed size: 83.4 cm × 36 cm. Individual photographs: 24 cm × 18.7 cm each

Historical Note:
HMS Sabre and HMS Scimitar were Royal Navy fast attack craft of the post-war era, continuing the lineage of wartime Coastal Forces that had played a vital role during the Second World War. Designed for speed, agility, and coastal patrol duties, vessels of this type were used extensively for training, interception, and rapid response tasks during the early Cold War period.

Photographs showing these boats operating at speed are particularly evocative of their intended role and are increasingly sought after as original Coastal Forces material becomes harder to source.

*Condition*
The photographs appear original and period, with good tonal contrast and clear detail. Light surface reflections are present in the images due to the glazed frame, as photographed. The frame shows general age-related wear consistent with use and display, and the rear backing board is intact. No major damage observed. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
