Description

*British / Allied, 1946, General Eisenhower SHAEF Supreme Commander’s Report – Operations in Europe, D-Day to VE Day*

An original 1946 first edition of General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s official post-war report titled “Report by the Supreme Commander to the Combined Chiefs of Staff on the Operations in Europe of the Allied Expeditionary Force.” Published by His Majesty’s Stationery Office, London, this important historical document covers the Allied campaign in Europe from 6 June 1944 (D-Day) through to 8 May 1945 (VE Day).

The distinctive cover features the famous SHAEF insignia—a flaming red sword beneath a rainbow, symbolising Allied victory and liberation in Europe. This report was produced as Eisenhower’s formal operational summary for the Combined Chiefs of Staff and provides a detailed first-hand strategic overview of Operation Overlord, the Normandy landings, the breakout from France, the Ardennes Counter-Offensive, crossing the Rhine, the Ruhr encirclement, and the final surrender of Germany.

The volume contains 149 pages plus prefatory material, with printed maps and operational sections throughout, including chapters covering The Assault, The Breakthrough, Battle of the Falaise-Argentan Pocket, Ardennes Counter-Offensive, Crossing the Rhine, and The Final Phase. The final page carries Eisenhower’s printed signature dated 13 July 1945.

Published by H.M. Stationery Office, London, 1946, with the original printed price of 2s. 6d. to the front cover and S.O. Code No. 57-576 to the rear.

Approx. Measurements – 24 cm x 15.5 cm.

History Note::
This publication remains one of the most important contemporary printed summaries of the Allied campaign in Western Europe during the Second World War. Issued shortly after the war, it served both as an official military record and as an accessible public account of the campaign under Eisenhower’s command. The SHAEF emblem on the cover has become iconic among collectors of Second World War documents and military history publications.

*Condition*
Original paper card covers with expected age-related wear, handling marks, and some rubbing to edges and spine. Light creasing and minor corner wear present, with small spine stress marks visible. Internally generally clean and complete with no obvious missing pages noted. A very presentable original wartime/post-war issue example. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
