Description

*British, WW1 Era, North Staffordshire Regiment Cap Badge, Bi-Metal, Brass Slider*

A good original WW1-era cap badge for the North Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s), in attractive bi-metal construction with brass/gilt metal Staffordshire Knot and slider fitting to the reverse.

The badge features the regiment’s distinctive Staffordshire Knot to the centre, the Prince of Wales’s feathers and coronet above, with the motto “Ich Dien”, and the lower scroll reading “North Stafford”. This is a classic infantry regiment badge, strongly associated with the regiment’s service during the First World War.

Approx. Measurements – Height: 5.7 cm. Width: 4.3 cm.

History Note:
The North Staffordshire Regiment was formed in 1881 through the Childers Reforms, combining the 64th and 98th Regiments of Foot. The Prince of Wales’s feathers reflect the 98th Regiment’s historic title, while the Staffordshire Knot links the badge firmly to the county identity. The regiment served on numerous fronts during the First World War and continued until amalgamation with the South Staffordshire Regiment in 1959.

*Condition*
Good overall condition with age-related wear, toning and light surface marks. The bi-metal detail remains well defined, with good relief to the knot, feathers and scrolls. The slider is present to the reverse and appears firmly attached. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
