Description

*British, c.1958–1970, The Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Volunteers) Brass Shoulder Title, “LANCASHIRE (PWV)”*

A good original post-war British Army brass shoulder title for The Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Volunteers), featuring the regiment name LANCASHIRE above the initials PWV. This is the desirable one-piece brass pattern worn following the 1958 amalgamation of the South Lancashire Regiment and the East Lancashire Regiment.

The title was worn on the shoulder straps of service dress and No.2 dress uniforms to identify the wearer’s regiment. “PWV” stands for Prince of Wales’s Volunteers, reflecting the regiment’s full title. The regiment itself was formed on 1 July 1958 by the amalgamation of the South Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Volunteers) and the East Lancashire Regiment, serving with distinction in BAOR Germany, Hong Kong, Aden, Malta, Swaziland and other overseas postings before its further amalgamation in 1970 into The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment.

This example is in brass with the correct early construction, retaining its original two lug fittings and long securing pin to the reverse. A very collectable regimental title from a comparatively short-lived regiment with strong post-war British Army interest.

Approx. Measurements – Width: 5.2 cm. Height: 2 cm.

History Note:
The Lancashire Regiment existed for only twelve years (1958–1970), making original insignia from this regiment especially desirable. Its formation represented the post-war reorganisation of the British Army, combining two distinguished Lancashire county regiments under the historic Prince of Wales’s Volunteers title.

*Condition*
Good original condition with honest service wear and age patina to the brass. Some surface tarnishing and light verdigris commensurate with age. Reverse complete with both original lugs and retaining pin present. An untouched example with good display appeal. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
