~ Arthur Ferrier (1891 – 1973) Hand Drawn Cartoon Of Partying Couple ~
A framed hand drawn piece by the famous Scottish artist, illustrator and cartoonist Arthur Ferrier (1891 – 27 May 1973).
The picture depicts a man in suit and bow tie and glass of Champagne in hand celebrating an event (presumably New Year), a smartly dressed woman in a party hat & with a noise maker in her mouth on his shoulder. All around the two are various strands of confetti.
The piece has been sketched in pencil, and drawn over in black pen. Numerous tippex marks can be seen across the sheet.
The piece is signed on the lower edge.
It is framed under museum glass.

The frame has a width of 8.2 inches (20.8 cm), a height of 11.5 inches (29.2 cm) & a depth of 0.6 inches (1.4 cm).
The picture has a height of 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) & a width of 7.5 inches (19.1 cm).
It weighs 535 g.
~ Condition ~
The picture is in excellent condition. Other than some darkening to the paper caused by age the picture shows no sign of foxing, fading or damage. The frame has some scratches & minor wear.
~ Arthur Ferrier ~
Ferrier was born and started work in Glasgow, Scotland as an analytical chemist. He freelanced as a cartoonist for the Daily Record there. He moved to London and drew joke cartoons for a number of weekly magazines, including Punch, The Humorist and London Opinion.
In 1930,he produced a weekly strip glamour cartoon called “Film Fanny”. A London paper, the Sunday Pictorial, published his glamour drawing under the title “Our Dumb Blonde”, which ran from 1939 to 1946. A comic strip called “Spotlight on Sally” in the Pictorial was followed by another called “Eve”.
In addition to his printed work, Ferrier also painted during World War I. Some of this work is in the collection of the Imperial War Museum in London. He also produced a set of drawings used on sets of china ware from the Royal Albert China Collections.
