~ Circa 1850 Staffordshire Porcelain Cloth Effect Basket ~
A wonderfully made Staffordshire porcelain cloth effect basket most likely made by Rockingham due to the handle shape.
The basket has been created using a raised stippling technique to mimic a cloth napkin or towel and really has been well crafted with great attention to detail.
It is decorated with blue flowers and gilt patterns on a white ground and has a gilt edging.
The basket has a single handle in the form of a branch which is in a white glaze with gilt detailing.
To the base is an impressed mark of ‘328’ which is over painted with ‘448’ in puce (another Rockingham indication).
~ Dimensions ~
The basket measures 11 ½ inches (29cm) by 6 inches (15cm) and has a height of 9 inches (23cm).
It weighs 990g.
~ Condition ~
The basket is in a very nice condition with no damage and only very minimal wear to some of the gilding on the handle.
