~ 1898 Pattern Swiss Watchmeisters Jacket~
Here we have a very interesting jacket, the pattern 1898 uniform of the Swiss Armed Forces that was worn during the 1st World War.
The jacket is double breasted and a very dark blue with a crimson piping. There are single chevrons on both sleeves marking this as a Watchmeisters (sergeants) jacket and on the left sleeve there is a silver/grey marksman’s award.
On the inner left breast is the manufacture number ‘CB 13 3445 5 B’, under the collar is a ‘42’ and printed on there is a ‘5B 42’, presumably a unit mark.
There is a small label with ‘MRS 1988.90’ on the inner liner.
~ Dimensions ~
The tunic is 26 inches (66 cm) long (on the rear side) from the collar’s top to the lower edge of the tunic.
The width from shoulder to shoulder is 16 inches (40.5 cm).
The arm length (on the outside) from shoulder seam to the end of cuff is 22.9 inches (58 cm).
The waist is 17.5 inches (44.5 cm) across
The chest (when laid down flat) from armpit to armpit is 18 inches (45.7 cm) across.
It weighs 500 grams.
~ Condition ~
There are a serious number of moth holes on the left sleeve, collar and reverse of the tunic.
The lining of both the tunic and cap are excellent and damage free.
