~ 19th Century Italian Ginori Porcelain Snake Handled Pot ~
A beautiful porcelain pot with handles modelled as snakes by the Ginori porcelain factory, Italy dating to the
mid to late 1800’s.
The Ginori porcelain factory was established in Doccia, Italy by Marquis Carlo Andrea Ginori in 1735 with a
view to producing quality porcelain items. By the 1850’s when this piece dates to, naturalistic taste,
Romanticism and high decoration were popular themes.
This pot features all those key features.
The pot is of bulbous for with a flared rim.
It is hand-painted in colours variously with natural forms, banners and wreaths on a white ground.
The real feature of the piece is the handles which are in the form of two snakes
The piece is marked to the base with a handwritten monogramme of ‘TSC’ and the number ‘277’.
~ Dimensions ~
The pot has a diameter of 11cm (4 ¼ inches) and a height of 10cm (4 inches) or 13cm (5 inches) including the
handles.
It weighs 330g.
~ Condition ~
There is a flea bite chip to the bottom edge which is almost impossible to see unless the pot is upturned.
There is also some crazing of the glaze but otherwise the piece is free from damages and shows very little
wear.
