~ Baden Household Model 1897/1915 Infantry Officers Pickelhaube ~
To the fore of the black leather skull is the state gilt wappen plate, mounted to the helmet via two threaded posts and there are no other holes in the front of the helmet.
The chin scales are of leather backed gilt brass held in place with national and state cockades. The interior is lined with brown leather and silk. The visors are backed by green and red leather.
The tall spike with four stars and a pearl ring bears a black horse hair plume.
The label inside reads ‘Seine konigliche hoheit grossherzog Friedrich Von Baden’ which translates as ‘His royal highness grand duke Friedrich Von Baden’. This indicates that is was a household piece for the dukes family or personal staff.
~ Condition ~
The rear visor is partially unstitched. There is some crazing to the leather skull. The stars are believed to be replacements, all other parts are original. Otherwise the piece is in good clean tidy order.
~ Dimensions ~
The helmet is 24 cm (9.5 inches) fore to aft, 20 cm (8 inches) wide and 33 cm (13 inches) tall including the spike.
