*British, c.1914–1945, Medal Bar of Nine Miniatures, WW1, Palestine & WW2*
A highly attractive and historically coherent British miniature medal bar comprising nine awards, court-mounted on a single period backing bar, representing continuous active service from the First World War through the Second World War. The group is mounted in correct official order of wear and retains its original ribbons, suspensions, and fittings, with consistent age and patination throughout.
The group is headed by the Distinguished Conduct Medal, followed by the standard First World War campaign pair, inter-war imperial service in Mandatory Palestine, three Second World War campaign stars, and concluding with the War Medal 1939–45. A bronze oak leaf is affixed to the War Medal ribbon, denoting a Mention in Despatches.
Medals (Left to Right, As Mounted):
Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM), George V – miniature, silver
British War Medal 1914–1920 – miniature, silver
Victory Medal – miniature, bronze
General Service Medal 1918–1962, George VI, clasp: “PALESTINE 1936–1939” – miniature, silver
1939–45 Star – miniature
The Atlantic Star – miniature
Africa Star – miniature
Defence Medal – miniature
War Medal 1939–45 – miniature, silver, with oak leaf (Mention in Despatches)
Historical Note:
This is the miniature equivalent of a particularly strong entitlement, headed by the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM)—the senior gallantry award for other ranks below the Victoria Cross in the period—followed by the standard Great War campaign pair. The presence of the General Service Medal with Palestine 1936–1939 clasp places the recipient in the thick of the Arab Revolt era internal security operations. The Second World War sequence is notable for including both the Atlantic Star (operational service in the Atlantic theatre) and the Africa Star (North Africa theatre), before concluding with the Defence Medal and War Medal. The Mention in Despatches oak leaf adds an extra layer of distinction to an already desirable gallantry and campaign combination.
Groups spanning WW1 gallantry, inter-war Palestine service, and WW2 operational duty, and remaining intact as a correctly mounted miniature bar, are increasingly scarce.
*Condition*
Overall good period condition. Medals show honest wear and surface patina consistent with long-term wear. Ribbons display light fading and minor age-related fraying but remain intact and secure. Mounting is sound. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
An important and desirable nine-medal miniature gallantry group, combining First World War bravery, inter-war Palestine service, Second World War campaign awards, and a Mention in Despatches. A strong piece suitable for an advanced British medal collection.
