British WW1 1908 Pattern entrenching tool, with iron spade/pick head, stamped ‘PERKS 1915’ on the spade and regimentally marked ‘7 21’ on the pick side. Ash wooden helve.

First World War period British Army entrenching tool carried by all non-commissioned ranks as part oftheir personal equipment. When not in use the tool breaks down into two components with the metal head stowed within the special canvas web carrying case, and the helve carried beside the bayonet. It was in use throughout WW1 and up until 1923 when it was made obsolete. It was re-introduced in 1941 and then saw use throughout the Second World War.
