Description

*British, WW1, Sam Browne Leather Belt, Size “33”, Brass Fittings*

A fine original WWI–early interwar British Sam Browne officer’s belt, marked “33” to the underside and measuring approximately 104 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. Made from thick brown service bridle leather with hand-stitched leaf-shaped reinforcement panels typical of Great War private-purchase officer equipment. Fitted with a heavy brass double-tongued buckle, two brass sword-frog studs, and multiple brass D-rings for cross-strap, sword and accoutrement suspension. The leather retains a deep, rich period colour with the brass mounts showing a pleasing patina. A well-preserved and fully functional example.

Historical Note:
The Sam Browne belt was standard wear for British and Commonwealth officers throughout the First World War and remained in continuous use during the postwar years. Private-purchase belts from the period 1914–1925 frequently carried only size markings, as seen here, rather than manufacturer stamps or later military contract codes. The wide belt, dual sword studs and reinforced stitched panels are all characteristic of WWI officer equipment supplied through outfitters and regimental tailors rather than government stores.

*Condition*
Good period condition with honest service wear to the leather, stitching sound throughout, and all brass mounts secure with stable patination. Adjustment holes remain well-defined and all D-rings intact. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
