Description

*British, WW2,  RAF Comforts Committee Voluntary Worker Badge, Enamel & Chrome, By Thomas Fattorini*

A scarce original World War Two period Royal Air Force Comforts Committee Voluntary Worker badge, measuring 2.5 cm high by 2 cm wide. The design features a chrome eagle in flight across a circular blue enamel band inscribed “R.A.F. COMFORTS COMMITTEE”, above a scroll reading “VOLUNTARY WORKER”. Reverse with early style pin fitting and maker mark “THOMAS FATTORINI LTD REGENT ST. BIRMINGHAM”.

Historical Note:
The RAF Comforts Committee was formed during the Second World War to organise the provision of “comforts” for airmen — knitted garments, food parcels, tobacco, books, and recreational items — all sourced through voluntary contributions and organised fundraising. The Committee coordinated thousands of civilian volunteers, particularly women, who produced hand-knitted scarves, gloves and socks for RAF personnel serving in Britain and overseas.

Badges such as this were issued to volunteers as recognition of their contribution to the war effort. They were produced in relatively small numbers compared to service badges and are now sought after by collectors of RAF and Home Front memorabilia.

*Condition*
The badge retains much of its original blue enamel, though with some small losses and light surface wear. The chrome plating shows typical wartime economy finish with patches of green spotting and age patina. The pin and hinge remain intact and functional. Clear maker’s stamp to the reverse. Overall a presentable and authentic example.
Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
