~ c1864 Victorian 18ct Gold, Enamel, Pearl & Diamond Mourning Ring UK Size N, US 6.75 ~
A gorgeous Victorian mourning ring dated for 1864.
Mourning jewellery, though having been around for many years, gained popularity during the Victorian era when Queen Victoria went into mourning after the death of her husband Albert in 1861. Mourning jewellery in the form of rings, brooches and such, usually in black with precious stones and often human hair acted as tokens of remembrance for the deceased and as a reminder to the living of the inevitability of death.
This stunning ring features a small diamond surrounded by six pearls set in black enamel with gold detailing.
The ring reads ‘In Memory Of’ in gold on black enamel.
The ring is fully hallmarked for 18ct gold, Birmingham with the date stamp for 1864.

The diamond measures approximately 0.02 carats (just over 1mm diameter).
The pearls measure 2.5mm in diameter each.
The ring is a UK size N which is a US size 6.75

~ Condition ~
One of the pearls looks to be a replacement and there is some wear to the enamel.
The ring is otherwise in great condition with no damage and good clear hallmarks.
