~ Circa 1790 French Military Sword ~
Here is a fun sword, one of the French military Epee du Soldat’s or French officers sword from the years of the French Revolution and the First French Empire. The sword is a stereotypical blade of the period, a military smallsword but not yet a spadroon. This sword has a knucklebow, boatshell guard and a pommel in the shape of a Phrygian capped head.
The blade itself is a triform hollow ground blade with a blue and gilt forte.
~ Condition ~
The blueing is in rather good condition with most of the gilt remaining in the engravings. The grip wire is luckily near perfect. The guard has a little play.
~ Dimensions ~
The sword is 102 cm (40 inches) in length with a 84 cm (34 inches) blade.
