~ Circa 1880 Cigarette Ash Tray Barrel ~
The ashtray is made in the shape of a wooden barrel with brass rims. The body is of brass and it has been enameled to resemble tortoise shell. It is fitted with a glass liner.
The hinged brass lid bears a stand for resting a cigarette or cheroot.
~ Dimensions ~
The ash tray is approximately 2 inches (5cm) tall and 1.75 inches (4.5cm) in diameter.
The ash tray weighs 95 grams.
~ Condition ~
There is some loss of the enamel finish in places, particularly on the lid, revealing the base coat. The ashtray has other signs of use such as the blackening around the cigarette holder and ash that has collected at the bottom of the tray and is stiffly in place.
