Description

*Czech, Cold War Dated 1964, CZ Vz.61 Škorpion Machine Pistol Kit, Matching Numbers V9433, Holster, 2 Spare Magazines, Cleaning Kit & Accessories, EU Spec Deactivated*

An excellent and highly complete Czechoslovak CZ Vz.61 Škorpion machine pistol kit, serial number V9433, manufactured in 1964 and presented in excellent overall condition with a substantial range of original accessories including three magazines, holsters, cleaning kit and inert cartridges. The Škorpion is one of the most recognisable compact sub-machine guns of the Cold War era, and this early example is particularly desirable due to its matching numbered components and clear 1964 production markings.

The firearm retains its characteristic compact stamped steel receiver, wooden pistol grip and folding wire shoulder stock, the latter correctly numbered to the gun. The finish remains strong and original with only light handling wear, and the markings are clear and well defined. The distinctive compact profile and clever rate-reducing operating system that made the Vz.61 such an effective controllable automatic weapon are well preserved in this example.

Serial number V9433 appears clearly on the receiver and is repeated on matching components including the folding stock and underside parts, confirming the piece as a matching numbered military set rather than a later assembled example.

The underside of the frame is stamped “she 64”, the factory code used by Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod, indicating manufacture in 1964. Also present is the crossed sabres acceptance mark, the standard military inspection mark of the Czechoslovak Army confirming official service acceptance, together with additional inspection stamps including U3 and U2, applied during factory quality control.

The set is accompanied by three detachable magazines, comprising two standard curved magazines and one shorter magazine, all displaying Czech military inspection markings including the crossed sabres acceptance stamp, further supporting their military origin.

Approx. Measurements – Barrel length: 11.5 cm (4.5 inches). Overall length: 27 cm.

Kit Contents:
This lot comprises a substantial collector’s kit, including:
- CZ Vz.61 Škorpion machine pistol (EU specification deactivated)
- Three detachable magazines
- Leather Magazine Pouch (for 2) marked K6 with crossed sabres, likely military issue
- Six inert 7.65mm cartridges
- Military cleaning kit, including rods and brushes
- Leather Gun Holster with faint markings, possibly also dated 1964
- Black shoulder holster / harness
- Czech Reference book on the Škorpion - “7.65 mm Sub-machine Gun Vz.61 Škorpion and Its Variants.”

The presence of multiple original accessories and matching numbered parts significantly enhances the collector appeal of the set.

Historical Note:
The Škorpion vz. 61 was developed in the late 1950s by Czech designer Miroslav Rybář and adopted by the Czechoslovak armed forces in 1961. Manufactured primarily by Česká zbrojovka at Uherský Brod, the weapon was intended for use by vehicle crews, security personnel and special units requiring a compact automatic firearm.

Manufactured in 1964, this example dates from the early Cold War production period of the Škorpion vz.61, a compact sub-machine gun developed for Czechoslovak military and security forces and widely issued throughout the Warsaw Pact during the Cold War.

Chambered for 7.65 × 17mm Browning (.32 ACP), the Škorpion incorporated a unique rate-reducing mechanism housed in the pistol grip, lowering the cyclic rate to around 850–900 rounds per minute, which improved controllability despite the weapon’s small size.

The design proved highly successful and was widely exported throughout the Warsaw Pact and allied states, remaining in service for decades and becoming one of the most recognisable compact sub-machine guns of the Cold War era.

*Condition*
The firearm retains a strong original appearance with light wear consistent with handling and storage. The metal finish remains good overall and markings are clear and legible. The wooden grip shows typical service handling marks but remains structurally sound. Accessories display varying degrees of age and use, particularly the leather pouch and holster which show expected patina and wear. The magazines remain in good condition. The firearm has been deactivated to EU / UK specification and is supplied with its London Proof House deactivation certificate dated 2018. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
