~ Early 20th Century Framed Royal Navy Royal Arms Silk Work ~
A fine Royal Naval silk work featuring the Royal arms dating to the early 1900’s.
The silk work is of the royal arms with scrolling banner below reading ‘Dieu Et Mon Droit’ (God And My Right [the motto of the British Monarch]). It is flanked on either side by a lion and a horse and by standards of the Royal Navy with a three masted ship atop all on a black silk ground.
The piece is presented in a glazed frame.
The reverse of the frame has in pencil the name of the embroiderer ‘H. Imamura’ from Nagasaki in Japan. His name has been found on other silk works dating to 1902-1905 so we can positively date this piece to around that time.
~ Dimensions ~
The silk work measures 39.5cm (15 ½ inches) by 53.5cm (21 inches).
The frame measures 51cm (20 inches) by 65cm (25 ½ inches).
It weighs 3.03Kg.
~ Condition ~
The black ground has a couple of areas of wear and a small area of restoration. The silk work itself is in a very nice condition, there is no damage and the colours are vivid and bright.
The frame is in good order.
